Christmas Donation

Northampton company Midshires Electrical & Lighting has made a charity donation that helps a client say thank you to the people who helped him through the most traumatic period of his life.

In December 2008, shortly after giving birth to their son, Henry, Mick Golding's wife Jo was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Nine months later, in late August 2009, aged just 37, Jo sadly passed away.

Mick, of Bilton Design and Build in Rugby , is a client of Midshires and Ben Fountain, Managing Director of the Northampton firm based at Crow Lane Industrial Estate, was prompted by the family's story to offer part of the company's regular Christmas charity donation to the cause of Mick's choice.

"A couple of years ago we decided that instead of sending our customers a bottle of wine at Christmas, we would make a donation to a good cause," said Ben. "It made a lot more sense than giving a gift that is quickly forgotten about.

"Mick's story had touched all of us, Henry is a beautiful little boy and the idea of him not having his mum there is heartbreaking. When we made the offer, Mick suggested the team of carers who looked after Jo during her final months and who showed him so much care and compassion during what must have been an incredibly difficult time."

"He thought a donation would be wonderful and would mean so much to everyone who knew and loved Jo, as well as supporting such a good cause."

Ben was at the Arden Centre hospice last month to hand over a cheque for £500 towards the work done by the staff who work with terminally ill patients.

The company would like to encourage others to make a small donation by telephoning Liz Heild on 02476 965148
